The three young musicians Catharina Chen (violin), Joachim Knoph (piano) and
Bo Jing Li (double bass) has been invited to Shanghai to give an official concert
in the well-kown concert hall “Jin Mao”.
8th June they will perform music by Edvard Grieg; The ”Norwegian Peasant dances”
for piano, and the ”Sonata in G Major Op.13” for violin and piano.
Also, the three musicians will perform compositions by Bottesini, Saint-Saens
and Sarasate
About the perfomers:
Catharina Chen (1985) has performed as a soloist since the age of eight and has
already been accompanied by several professional orchestras both in Norway and
elsewhere. These have included the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Norwegian Radio
Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Tromso
Symphony Orchestra and Oslo Camerata, ZKO-Zuricher Chamber Orchestre. Newly, she was a soloist with Shanghai Symphony
Orchestra in their brand-new Oriental Concert Hall and with Beverly Hills Symphony
Orchestra in L.A. Summer 2005 and 2006. And Dallas Symphony orchestra November
2006. In spring 2007, she will have concert in Carnegie Hall in New York as soloist
and chamber musician.
Catharina’s status as one of Norway’s most promising young classical musicians
has earned her several major awards such as: The Norwegian Music Publishers’ Union
“Prize of Honour” in 2002 and the 2003 “Karoline Prize” for high achievement by
a Norwegian high school student in sport, art or culture. She has won first prizes
in national violin competitions in Norway in 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002 and has
also been awarded scholarships in Norway (Anun Lund Rej Memorial Foundation for
Young Talents), Switzerland (Margess International), America (I Palpiti) and one
of Norway’s most prestigious prizes from Oslo Municipal: Artist Prize for 2003!
In December 2003, Catharina was awarded 1. Prize at the prestigious “Gnessin International
Competition for young violinists” in Moscow. In this competition she was also
awarded the prize of “Best Artistic Performance”. Besides she also won a CD recording,
and a prestigious invitation to the “Young Artists International” in Los Angeles.
The Norwegian pianist Joachim Knoph has in recent years been a soloist on CD
with The Norwegian Radio Orchestra conducted by Ari Rasilainen, and participated
in several prestigious Scandinavian music festivals, like Staffan Scheja´s “Gotland
Chamber Music festival” and at the “Summer concerts” at Troldhaugen, Bergen. Among
other projects in 2006, he performed the Grieg concerto in Oslo Concert Hall.
He has participated at numerous concerts in Norway and abroad, including France,
Germany, England, Belgium, Austria, Italy and Sweden. Knoph has also cooperated
with a large number of renowned Scandinavian musicians and singers, and has additionally
participated in masterclasses with Aldo Ciccolini, Philippe Entremont, Roberto
Szidon, Staffan Scheja and Hans Leygraf.
Joachim Knoph has won a large number of prizes and scholarships, including the
YAMAHA prize.
Bojing Li started to learn piano at eight years old and to learn double bass
at eighteen years old follow her father. She entered Shanghai conservatory of
the Music in 1990 and graduated in 1994. After graduation, she worked in Shanghai
Opera House as a principle double bass player. She has a lot of performance experiences
all over China and Asia.
When she was a student in Shanghai conservatory of Music, she took part in Asia
Youth Orchestra, with which she performed in Hongkong, Japan, South Korea, Taibei,
Marco and Singapore.
In 2005, Bojing Li got the chance to study doublebass as a Master student in
Norwegian Academy of Music, following Dan Stefen Steffy, who is a principle double
bass player at Oslo Fiharmonien Symphony Orchestra.
She hold her solo concert at Sofienberg kirke 0n Oct, 2006, which got high review
from her teacher and audience.She have played as principle double bass with NMH
symfoniorkester & Oslo Symfoniorkester.
